*The Most Special Chosen* News 12-11-2017

It’s been a while since my last series update. There hasn’t been a lot of news recently. I’ve been reviewing and editing The Most Special Chosen. I’ve been making a lot of minor edits, and even re-writing some sections completely.

I’m currently editing the last chapter before I do a final scrub-through and send it back to my publisher for round 2. I have to admit, I’m really happy with the edits. They’ve really improved the story, and the writing is much improved as well.

Part of the need for re-writes is an ever-changing society. Statements, ideas, and themes that were perfectly acceptable when I finished the story over four years ago are now somewhat iffy, so I’ve changed them. Anyone who picked up a copy of the self-published version a few years ago will want a new copy.

As a “thank you” for reading my blog, here’s a sneak peek of the story.

Get to Know the Cast

If you have an author friend, or are an author yourself, then you know how talkative characters can be. Mine are no exception. Sometimes I feel like I’m just their conduit, their way for them to speak to the world, rather than their creator.

That said, in the lead up to the release of The Most Special Chosen, coming March 3, 2018, I’ve convinced a few of them to grant me interviews. I want to let you, let the world, get to know them. I promise you the interviews will be spoiler free. I’ll be posting one a month in November, December, January and February, each of which will also feature original portraits by the immensely talented Kyle McGill.

I realize that while I’m intimately acquainted with them all, the stars of the Exalted Bloodlines series are all new entities to you. So allow me a moment to introduce my main cast. Elysabeth Vance, daughter of Estel and George, is a senior in college who lives with her best friend of eight years, Shawn Dooley. At this point, they’re more like siblings than friends.

Damien Delanciennes stars opposite Elysabeth. He lives with his rather large family: Donovan and Selini, his parents; and Alyssa, Demetrius, Sebastian, Selene, and Eziano, his siblings.

So far, Selene, Shawn, Damien, and Elysabeth have granted me interviews, and I’ll be posting them in that order. I “sat down” with them before the events of The Most Special Chosen, so take the chance to get to know them before their lives change forever. Perhaps they’ll grant me additional interviews after the release to find out how they’re adjusting.

Make sure to subscribe to my blog so you don’t miss any of the interviews. For now, I’ll leave you with a sneak peek of Selene’s portrait.

*The Most Special Chosen* News

It’s been a while since I updated you all on The Most Special Chosen. It’s just over 4 months to its release date, and I’m really started to get excited. As you may recall, it’s in editing with my publisher, and I’m waiting for recommendations.

Beta Readers

In the meantime, I’ve given it to a few beta readers, and they’ve provided me their comments. I’m working my way through the book, editing it based on those comments. I’m currently on chapter 6, and I feel like the changes are really improving the story. I look forward to making it the best it can be for your enjoyment.

Cover

I’ve also started the cover process. The fabulously talented, award-winning Ryn Katryn is working on finding models, first. I look forward to seeing what she comes up with, as her recent work has been breathtaking. Check out her website to see her work.

Newsletter

I’m working on starting a newsletter to keep you all up-to-date a little better. If you’re interested in receiving email updates, sign up for it.

Meet the Characters

Tomorrow I’ll be sharing some news about meeting some of my characters before The Most Special Chosen is released in March. So make sure to check back, or better yet, subscribe to my blog to be notified of new posts.

Friday Reads Schedule Change

Scar assumes the throneHello my Friday Reads readers! I’m sorry to disappoint you, but my Friday Reads schedule is changing.

After 6 weeks of Friday Reads, I’ve come to the realization that a weekly series isn’t sustainable for the long term. So, it is with a heavy heart that I must curtail Friday Reads. *Giggle* Drop me a comment if you’re a Lion King fan.

Seriously, though, I am sorry to cut back on the frequency of my Friday Reads series. However, while I’ve certainly read a ton of books, they haven’t all been important or impactful. I’m trying to keep my Friday Reads important to me. I want to share books with you that I’ve loved enough to read multiple times (at least 3+ times).

Of course, doing so means that I drastically cut down on the number of books I have to write about. So spacing out the posts will let me keep this series going longer. Friday Reads will now be a monthly series, occurring on the first Friday of each month.

What do you think of the new schedule? Are you ok with it? Would you rather I go back to a weekly schedule and just stop the serious when I run out of books? Leave me a comment and let me know.

Live, Learn, and Rebrand

When I self-published The Most Special Chosen, then known as The Most Special Chosen of All, I decided to brand everything by the book series, rather than by my name. I wanted the series to stand on its own, to shine. Consequently, my URL, Facebook, etc. are all variants of Exalted Bloodlines. I did all of my designing around the first book, without ever truly stopping to consider what the series as a whole would be like.

Now several years older (and hopefully wiser), I’m finding many things I should have done differently back then (see “New Logo!“), and am fixing them to general accolade and appreciation.

My most recent revelation is that I should have branded everything with my name. I should shine, and carry my books along in that glow. That’s why this site is now racheldelafuente.com. As I continue writing, there will be changes to the branding of this site as well, but for now I intend to keep it Exalted Bloodlines-centric.

So expect to see some changes to my social media profiles. I’ll be changing the names, and perhaps the profile pictures. Make sure to update any bookmarks you may have. I’ve gone back and updated links in past posts, so everything will go to the right places.

Thanks for sticking with me through the changes.

‘Gramming It Up

AInstagram logo with the Exalted Bloodlines logofter some deliberation, I’ve decided to start an Instagram account for the Exalted Bloodlines Series. I haven’t quite figured out a schedule just yet, but that won’t stop me from posting regularly. Follow Exalted Bloodlines on Instagram for sneak peaks, behind the scenes looks at my writing process, funny memes, and more.

Social Media Overhaul

We’ve all heard about how important social media is for promotion. I’ll admit, I didn’t pay much attention to that when I self-published The Most Special Chosen. But I’ve been given this second chance. A second chance to really make things work.

To that end, I’ve updated the Facebook and Twitter pages for the Exalted Bloodlines Series. The profile and cover images for both have been updated to include the new branding for the series. I’m happy to say that the cover images feature the character renderings from my very talented friend Kyle McGill.

As you may recall from my post “From Mind to Paper“, Kyle drew my main characters — Elysabeth, Damien, and Shawn — a few years ago and is currently doing some more illustration work for me.

Now then, go check out my updated profiles. They look great. Make sure to like Exalted Bloodlines on Facebook and follow @ExltedBloodline on Twitter if you like the updates.

EDIT 7/14/17: With the rebranding of my site, you’ll find me under authorracheldlf on both Facebook and Twitter.  I’ve updated the links in the post, but I left the text as it was to preserve the post in its original form.

From Mind to Paper

Several years ago, when I self-published The Most Special Chosen, I commissioned my very talented friend Kyle McGill to draw my main characters — Elysabeth, Damien, and Shawn — for me. I was very pleased with the result, and I used them on the cover of the book.

Now that The Most Special Chosen is being published, I want to see a few more of my characters come to life. To achieve that, a few days ago I reached out to Kyle again. Lucky for me, he’s still taking commissions and can work me into his busy schedule. He’ll be drawing up three more characters in the near future, including one of Damien’s sisters. He’s also agreed to work on the rest of Damien’s family and Elysabeth’s family when he has some time available.

The new drawings won’t be unveiled for a while, as I don’t want to drop any spoilers before my book is re-released, but I may share some sneak peeks, so follow me on Instagram. Go visit Kyle’s Instagram as well, and show him some love.

Design: 1. Code: 0.

I got the completed design concepts for the new Exalted Bloodlines website today. After running them by several of my friends and coworkers, there is a definitive favorite. Only one person preferred a different design. Thankfully, the popular choice is my favorite as well.

Of course, the design was the easy part, as I didn’t have to do it. Now I’ve got to buckle down and actually develop the site around my day job and trying to have a life. I’m hoping it won’t take too long, but my spare time has been a bit limited lately.

Bookmark my site and come back often. The new design will be out soon and you don’t want to miss it. In the mean time, check out my social media profiles for other updates and fun things.
