She read it to me so many times, that at one point I had it memorized and would repeat it with her. I can still remember the poem:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll love you forever,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ll like you for always,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As long as I\u2019m living<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My baby you\u2019ll be.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think part of the reason that particular piece stuck with me is that my mother often shared a similar sentiment with me, just as her mother had shared it with her. \u201cYou could be 50 and you\u2019d still be my baby.\u201d As a child, that was just about the worst thing I could hear (I wasn\u2019t a baby). Now, I\u2019d give so much to hear her call me her baby again.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-102 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/handLettering.png?resize=300%2C258&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"You could be 50 and you'd still be my baby\" width=\"300\" height=\"258\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/handLettering.png?resize=300%2C258&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/handLettering.png?resize=150%2C129&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/handLettering.png?resize=768%2C660&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/handLettering.png?w=821&amp;ssl=1 821w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I grew up, my mom stopped reading to me, as you\u2019d expect, and I basically forgot all about <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Love You Forever<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. I don\u2019t even remember, at this point, what brought it back to my attention. I <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remember looking it up online and being hit by a wave of nostalgia simply by looking at the cover.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I bought a Kindle edition just so I could read it again. It\u2019s a good thing I didn\u2019t go to a bookstore, because I got hit in the feels HARD. I went through several tissues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It starts out so sweet, you can\u2019t help but smile. But then it comes around full circle, and it hits home in a way you wouldn\u2019t expect for a children\u2019s book. I\u2019m surprised my mom was able to read it to me so easily. If I had a child and was reading it to him or her, I\u2019d be bawling. Poor thing would probably be traumatized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d highly recommend reading this to your kid(s), though. It\u2019s an amazing book that stands the test of time. Just make sure to read it by yourself, first, to make sure you can make it through without turning on the waterworks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-103 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/17346311._SY540_.jpg?resize=287%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Illustration from Love You Forever\" width=\"287\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/17346311._SY540_.jpg?resize=287%2C300&amp;ssl=1 287w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/17346311._SY540_.jpg?resize=143%2C150&amp;ssl=1 143w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/racheldelafuente.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/17346311._SY540_.jpg?w=516&amp;ssl=1 516w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 287px) 100vw, 287px\" \/>I\u2019m not ashamed to say I still enjoy it. The poem still pops to mind occasionally. I even still hear it in my mom\u2019s voice.
