In working on this post, I surprised myself with how few favorites I’ve abandoned. I expected to have plenty to choose from, but I struggled to get enough for a full post. Whether I’m highly loyal to my favorites, or I’m super picky about what makes it to “favorite” status, I’m not sure, but they equal out to the same thing: a short list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Pens<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I’ve only got two pens that were once faves. I’ve kept both of these because of the good memories associated with them. If I didn’t have those memories as reasons to keep them, I’d have sold both pens by now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stipula Etruria Rainbow Prisma 88<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I’ve written about my Prisma 88<\/a> multiple times. It has some great memories associated with it. When I first got it over 6 years ago, I thought it was beautiful. Today, though, with all of the works of art I own, it’s fallen to pretty at best. I’m also not super fond of the titanium nib. It’s a bit noisy for my taste, and regularly skips on vertical strokes, even after tuning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lamy Safari Dark Lilac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I’ve said before that my Dark Lilac was my first, non-Preppy pen. That, alone, makes it special. But, the Safari nib isn’t my favorite. I don’t want to get rid of it, but I’m seriously considering retiring it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paper<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Like with pens, I only managed to come up with two paper-related items that have been dethroned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Col-O-Ring Ink Testing Book<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the early days of Col-O-Ring<\/a>, I was a big fan. But, when I needed to get a second ring, I realized how much space it takes up and abandoned it for a different method<\/a>. Somewhat ironically, I’ve now switched my swatching method again to one that takes up even more space<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Franklin-Christoph Firma Flex<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For years, my favorite notebook was the Firma Flex<\/a>. It got dethroned by the Rhodia Goalbook<\/a> with white paper about a year ago. It seems like Franklin-Christoph has stopped making the Firma Flex, so I guess it’s a good thing I found a replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I do<\/em> have more inks that I’ve abandoned over the years, but, since I only had two each in pens and paper, it made sense to choose two ink. I’ve done my best to edit the ink swatches to be true-to-life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organics Studio Jane Austen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I used to enjoy Jane Austen so much that it was my ink of choice for our fountain-pen-themed wedding<\/a> in 2018. Since then, though, I’ve tried tons of new inks. I’ve learned that I don’t love the Organics Studio formula. I kept Jane Austen for the color \u2014 and because I love Jane Austen \u2014 but recently I got Wearingeul Jane Eyer, which is pretty similar, so I’m finally letting Jane Austen go. The ink, not the author.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Diamine Lilac Night<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you saw my Ink Battle post last week<\/a>, then you know that I’m getting rid of Lilac Night. It’s been a favorite of mine for several years, though. I still enjoy it, but recently, I’ve been enjoying wet nibs more, and Lilac Night looks nearly black in them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
