Chase has it all. Owner of a successful business, social standing and respect, killer looks and not the fianc\u00e9 of any man’s fantasy. His life is in control, just the way he planned; but everything is not as it appears. His brother, also his business partner and closest friend, is angrily rejected when he attempts to tell Chase the Truth. As Chase blindly races toward an empty future based on lies and deceit, his brother makes the dangerous decision to protect him.<\/p>\n

Carly, a single and struggling mom, has always sacrificed personal happiness in an effort to protect her son. Lonely and stuck in a dead-end job, her life revolves around her special needs child; until the abusive father threatens to take him. Carly decides to take a chance on life and accept a friend request from her high school sweetheart. Can she let down her defenses and open her heart, or will the past cloud her future? Will a simple Facebook friend request bring Chase and Carly the happiness they so desperately desire, or will secrets from their past threaten to keep them apart … forever.<\/p>\n

Review<\/h2>\n

I knew, when I started my book blogging adventure, that I’d come across books I didn’t like. Thus far, I’ve been lucky to have read fun and interesting books. Today, though, I’m reviewing my first DNF (did not finish), which means an automatic 0 stars.<\/p>\n

I couldn’t bring myself to finish reading\u00a0The Friend Request<\/em>. It was overwritten, hard to understand, and contained many grammatical errors. I’m disappointed, because the premise sounded promising, and the story line was somewhat interesting. It was nice to see the inclusion of a special needs child, and I would have like to see how he contributed to the story.<\/p>\n

I don’t believe in beating a dead horse (as the saying goes) so I’m just going to give a short overview of what I didn’t like. I’d like to take a moment to say I only made it through chapter 2, so it’s possible things improved later in the story.<\/p>\n

It’s very overwritten. I think Mr. Soto was trying to utilize flowery language, but\u00a0The Friend Request<\/em> reads, in my opinion, like he looked up one (or more) of those descriptive words for authors lists and tried to fit them all into the book. This makes it very difficult to follow the story. I found myself re-reading sentences two or three times trying to understand what was being said.<\/p>\n

There are also serious grammatical errors and some misspellings, although the misspellings are far less frequent than the grammatical errors. About half of the grammatical errors stem from the previously mentioned overwriting.<\/p>\n

I will say that the dialogue was significantly easier to read than the narration. If Mr. Soto had written the entire book in the style he wrote the dialogue, it would have been a much easier, and more pleasant, read.<\/p>\n
