Well, first off, welcome to 2025. I won’t lie and say I’m looking forward to this year, but time moves on no matter what we want. I hope 2025 goes better than I currently have reason to expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, another year gone means another reading challenge complete. I’m surprised by how much I read this year. I didn’t feel like I was reading a lot, and there were even times when I read very slowly because I was reading non-fiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I find it fascinating to look back and see where I read a lot, where I slowed down, and what<\/em> I was reading. To facilitate that more easily \u2014 and since I’ve gotten tired of Goodreads deleting Harry Potter fan fiction \u2014 I also tracked my books manually, this year. Since I’m tired of re-adding books, my numbers on Goodreads don’t quite match my manual tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I finished 129 books in 2024 \u2014 123 according to Goodreads. That averages to approximately 2.5 books a week, or a book every 2.8 days. Of course, there’s more to the story. While I read almost every day of 2024 \u2014 only skipping 4 \u2014 5 of the nonfiction books I read during year took me over two weeks to finish, leaving only 278 days for the other 124 books. With those<\/em> numbers, I was reading an average of 3.1 books a week, or a book every 2.2 days. Phew!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2024 Reading Challenge Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Per usual, Goodreads provided this year’s edition of “My Year in Books<\/a>.” Looking only<\/em> at Goodreads, I read 19 more books than in 2023. While my shortest, longest, and average page counts were below 2023, I still managed to read 2,438 more pages this year \u2014 and that doesn’t count the 6 books that Goodreads dropped from my list over the course of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I read a lot of Pride & Prejudice variations again, even re-reading several multiple times during the year. My ADHD brain loves<\/em> the comfort of a favorite book. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In last year’s post<\/a> I wrote: “I don’t think<\/em> I’ll read as much next year as I read this year, but, I certainly didn’t expect to read as much as I did this year. So… we’ll see.” Ha!! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m going to say the same again this year because I plan to break out of the chokehold Pride & Prejudice variations have on me. I’m hoping to complete a book bingo challenge over the course of the year that will see me reading at least<\/em> 15 books that aren’t P&P variations. Wish me luck!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
