After Ritz was so sick<\/a> at the start of the year, I thought it would be good to follow up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned in my BWIPS post<\/a>, Ritz, almost miraculously, got better, possibly aided by antibiotics, but likely on his own. It was a huge relief after how sick he had been, as I’m sure you can imagine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 months on, Ritz is strong and healthy. He’s still a walking stomach, always trying to steal food from the future. He sticks a paw up the automated feeder chutes and jiggles the mechanism that turns. Since the “wings” that separate each feeding are bendy, he can often get a few kibble to drop from the next feeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

His illness matured him, though. He’s a little less active and a little more accepting of cuddles and pets. His “less active” is really only as a comparison to before his illness, as he’s still more active than all of our other cats. He still has plenty of zoomies and enjoys playing. But, he sleeps more, and his zoomies are less intense and shorter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With cuddles and pets, he lets himself be held longer. He’s had lap time a few times since he was sick, something he’d mostly avoided since kittenhood. He will also relax with us in the bedroom for much longer. He used to only hang out while we were sorting laundry. Now, it doesn’t matter what we’re doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had his second annual ECG on the third, and there were no changes from last year, which is great news. It’s looking like his congenital heart thickening won’t progress quickly \u2014 if at all. Very good news indeed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s hoping he never has another health scare. I want my Ritzling around for many years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
