This is one of two Zek Pens pens I picked up at the DC Pen Show<\/a> this year. It was the first to catch my eye, so it’s the first I’m sharing. Zek Pens includes \u2014 but may not be limited to \u2014 a brother-sister team. The brother makes the pens, and the sister paints them. This design is hand-painted Turkish illumination on a resin body. The paint is sealed, so you don’t have to worry about scuffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

360\u00b0 views<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As always, let’s start with the 360\u00b0 views. This pen is complex enough that I couldn’t create an unwrapped image, so I provided a photo layout, instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The color palette is phenomenal. The blue, turquoise, and silver are such a beautiful combination. While everyone loves to “kill winter with orange,” this will definitely be one of my go-to pens for my rebellious “kill summer with blue” movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love the watercolor, or perhaps stained glass, effect in the illumination. Rather than mixing colors, the artist has watered down the color to create gradients. It gives the design a more limited color palette, but also allows the material to show through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And speaking of material, it’s a gorgeous gray pearlescent resin that’s incredibly difficult to photograph. it’s not as yellow as it looks in the photos, but I couldn’t get it the color true to life, probably because of the blues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also have to draw attention to the beautifully precise bands painted at the base of the cap and top of the barrel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I’m really happy to have this pen in my collection. It’s a gorgeous addition, and I can easily see myself getting more Zek Pens in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
