When Alex Taleisin\u2019s immortal DNA kicks in after a fight for her life against something not-quite-human in the YMCA parking lot, her Aunt finally lets her in on the family secret. They\u2019re Immortal \u2013 Elementals to be precise. Only, Alex is a little something more, and until they discover what, her life is in danger.<\/p>\n

Collum Thronus, Guardian of the Races and savage King of the Dragons has no choice but to protect Alex and find her father\u2019s people. He made a promise and Collum always keeps his promises. Now, he needs to keep his hands of his charge.<\/p>\n

Enter an insane grandfather, a shifter with a hidden agenda, and a witch with a shoe addiction and soon Alex is wishing for a quiet house in the hills with the dragon she\u2019s falling for. But a battle is coming and Alex knows the only way to find her answers is to trust her powers and become the warrior she was destined to be.<\/p>\n

Review<\/h2>\n

I’ve read books with various elements present in\u00a0Fire Born<\/em>, but none where those elements were combined in such a unique manner. I loved\u00a0Fire Born<\/em> and very much look forward to jumping into\u00a0Magic Born<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The relationships between the characters are complex and interesting. I find myself equal parts thankful that I wasn’t subjected to any more interpersonal drama than necessary to make the story function, and questioning if I should feel that the conflicts between the “good” characters are too easily resolved. I found\u00a0Fire Born<\/em> to match my personal taste, so make of it what you will.<\/p>\n

I do wish the final conflict had been a bit more climactic. It suffered from Harry Potter Syndrome. The entire book, the reader keeps getting reminded that the baddies are dangerous and powerful, but then they’re defeated by the underdog without much effort.<\/p>\n

In any case, I heartily recommend\u00a0Fire Born<\/em> to anyone who likes hot witches, sexy dragons, badass elementals, and powerful female characters.<\/p>\n

About the Author<\/h2>\n

Rayanne Haines grew up on a small horse ranch in Alberta. She spent most of her youth re-enacting scenes from Anne of Green Gables to attentive audiences that included pygmy goats and roan stallions. The horses were thrilled. Her father could never figure out why it took her three hours to clean the barn.<\/p>\n

Her mother was an avid reader and instilled a love of literature in her at a young age. She has always been fascinated with learning people\u2019s stories.<\/p>\n

She has a fondness for mountains and rivers and all the creatures that live within them. And she believes in magic, the spirit, that which we cannot see.<\/p>\n

Rayanne knows stories and poetry can transform lives. She approaches her writing from a place of joy, wonder and empowerment.<\/p>\n

She also offers public speaking and writing workshops. She particularly likes speaking with young women about reaching their goals and overcoming adversity in their lives, and about how poetry and storytelling can inspire them.<\/p>\n
