We survived 2025, here’s hoping 2026 is better. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, another year gone means another reading challenge complete. I’m surprised at how much I managed to read around all of my crochet. I certainly didn’t come close to last year’s numbers<\/a>, but I did still read more than expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I continued my manual tracking for 2025 \u2014 despite Goodreads tracking my reading accurately this year \u2014 and have even decided to start a reading journal. Let me know if you have any interest in hearing more about that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I finished 72 books in 2025. That averages to approximately 1.4 books a week, or a book every 5 days. I read every day of 2025 \u2014 my Kindle app has me at a 478 day streak \u2014 but I read several of the books rather slowly, either due to length or content. My slowest reads were my two non-fiction reads at 23 and 34 days, and my longest book at 36 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025 Reading Challenge Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Per usual, Goodreads provided this year’s edition of “My Year in Books<\/a>.” I read 57 less books than last year, and read a book a day no more than three days in a row, versus last year’s five in a row. But, both my shortest and longest books were significantly longer than 2024, from 21 to 101 pages and 602 to 2,948 pages, respectively. Note: Goodreads doesn’t agree with me on my longest book page count. It’s a long fan fiction \u2014 Harry Crow \u2014 and I calculate page count assuming the mass-market paperback standard of 250 words per page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I don’t know if it’s coincidence or correlation, but the single book in May \u2014 non-fiction \u2014 and the single book in June \u2014 Harry Crow \u2014 coincided with my dive into crochet in late May. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned earlier, I had a lot of re-reads, 37 of the 72 books, or 51.4%. And, while I did manage to read more books that aren’t Pride and Prejudice<\/em> variations, 84.7% still were. I’d like to bring that down even further next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, I mentioned a book bingo challenge. I did manage to hit bingo with the following prompts: 2025 release, Tudor fiction, new Pride & Prejudice<\/em> variation (the free square), new book by a favorite author, and New York Times bestseller. If I’d read a horror book, I could have had two more bingos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m taking on a different challenge this year, the “Year of Goober” challenge by Goobers Who Read<\/a>. There are 24 prompts \u2014 2 per month \u2014 and you’re meant to choose 12 total. There’s more to it, but if you’re interested, I suggest you check out the announcement video<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I imagine I’ll read about the same amount this year as last year since I’m trying even harder to read less Pride and Prejudice<\/em> variations. I love them, but there’s so much else worth reading. However, since I’m planning to diversify my reading even more this year, I’ve set my goal to 52 books again this year. It would be nice to hit 78, though. We’ll see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
