Once again, I have a pen painted by Yulia Glas<\/a> to share with you. This beautiful Catstellations (cat constellations) pen intrigued me when Yulia shared a sneak peek. It only got better as she continued to work on it. I got greedy and asked if I could reserve it, and Di was kind enough to allow me to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

360\u00b0 views<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As always, let’s start with the 360\u00b0 views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Art<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is SO MUCH to cover for this pen. Let’s start at the cap and work our way down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cap<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I toyed around with creating an unwrapped view of the cap, but there are so many little details, it was proving impossible to get everything aligned. So instead, I give you a bunch of close-up images. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entwined sun and moon are both beautiful, but the contrast of the blue cat head and yellow ring with multicolor rays of the sun draw my eye more. Yulia really shows off her mastery of color and techniques with the sun and moon. The sun features patterns, polka dots, and pointillism. The moon has dotted lines, pointillism, and color blocking. And these are on top of the beautiful drawings and clean paintwork. AND they’re on a cylinder!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catstellations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

There are four catstellations on the barrel of the pen, each one unique, and each one wonderful. I think my favorite is the cat that’s walking. I love that its tail is up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Details<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I could take fifty photos and still not cover all of the details on this pen, so I focused on the main ones. The dotted details on the stars and circles are a lovely added bit of visual interest, and also help keep the yellow from drawing your eye away from the cats. The ball of yarn is adorable and looks like someone just finished playing with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Base of the Barrel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It wasn’t until I had the pen in my hands that I realized the colorful border of kitty heads Yulia added to the finial end of the barrel. They’re really cute, and something about the dotted lines leading up from them makes me think of a rave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The cap finial is, of course, the Stanford Pen Studio logo coin. The barrel finial features a stylized compass rose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Background Paint<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It was very hard to capture the shifts in the multi(?)- duo(?)-chromatic background paint. There is definitely a shift to a pinkish-purple, but it’s a bit hard to tell if it shifts fully to pink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Signature<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I appreciate that Yulia made her signature more visible on this pen. It’s easy to find and it stands out, without taking over the design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Thoughts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From the subject matter to the style to the colors used, I adore this pen, and I’m so happy I was able to snag it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
