Review<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

NOTE: This review is based on an eBook I borrowed from Amazon as part of the Kindle Unlimited program.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Longbourn Math<\/em> was\u2026 interesting. The book blurb in no way prepared me for the plot, as it only relates to the first of fortyish chapters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Longbourn Math<\/em> is both an alternate universe and<\/strong> out-of-character read. None of the characters act as one would expect based on Jane Austen\u2019s original, and the actions, expectations, manners, etc. are so far outside of acceptable for the period that they can only be justified with an \u201calternate universe\u201d frame of mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, I enjoyed Longbourn Math<\/em>. When read through the correct lens, it\u2019s a fairly light-hearted read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My main \u201ccomplaint,\u201d such as it is, is the amount of detailed mathematical explanations. I understand that the book is titled Longbourn Math<\/strong><\/em>, but once an explanation has been given once, it can be glossed over in future passages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An interesting point of note: based on the book blurb, this Pride and Prejudice<\/em> variation is set somewhere between 1760 and 1790, rather than the more common 1810s. I can only assume the goal was to have more people conversant in \u201cnew\u201d learning, rather than already used to it to the point where it\u2019s not interesting anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the underlying story is good, but the book wasn\u2019t truly to my taste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chapter 26: “I hope, for your sake, that you do not have to claw your way through a man\u2019s world. As you well know, women are perfectly capable, but everything we do, must be done twice as well as a man just to get any credit. It is exhausting.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chapter 32: The inhabitants set the character of a house as much as the furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chapter 40: “Never value affection over esteem, Elizabeth. If you have esteem, affection tags along like a newborn calf.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you have after some decades depends on what you plant and how well it is tended… Decades hence, I would like a garden like my parents\u2019. I would like friends, acquaintances, associates, and\u2014well, please do not read too much into this\u2014a wife much like you. I would like learn if we could have mutual places in each other\u2019s gardens, without presuming at this point what that place is.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
