“Do what you love and never work a day in your life.” How many times have you heard that? I can’t even begin to count. But, I’ve learned over the years that it’s mostly, if not completely, BS.<\/p>\n

I typically try to keep my posts positive, but today I want to provide a cautionary lesson. More and more, recently, I’ve seen examples of people making their passion into their work and finding that those passions fizzle and burn out.<\/p>\n

The nice thing about a passion that remains a hobby is that you do it because you want to. And when you don’t want you, you have the freedom to take a break. The moment you turn it into a job, you do it because you have to, and breaks aren’t really an option.\u00a0Having to force yourself to do something you don’t want to do is a quick way to lose interest.<\/p>\n

I grew up thinking the best job in the world would be to read all day. If you read my post on book blogging<\/a>, you know how that turned out. At the end of a 16 book push, reading an average of a book every 3 days, I was sick and tired of reading.<\/p>\n

If I’d had to keep up that pace, I may have lost my love of reading altogether. Thankfully, I could take a break and bounce back.<\/p>\n

If you want to turn your passion into a career, make sure you have breaks. If possible, give yourself other work as well so you can bounce between things.<\/p>\n

I’m not saying that everyone who turns their passion into a career will have a rough time of it. I’m just saying you should be aware of the potential pitfalls.<\/p>\n
