This is another adaptation from Theresa is Dead<\/a>, this time, her OH 2021… | BEAUTY RESOLUTIONS TAG video<\/a>. The Beauty Resolutions Tag originated with Mel Thompson<\/a>. At first glance, I thought this one wouldn’t require much adaptation. It seemed as though most questions could easily apply to the pen hobby simply by changing one or two words. However, when I sat down to really answer each question, I realized that a lot more work was required. But I digress<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll have to revisit this in 2023 and see how I did with these resolutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. What is something you do regularly in your pen routine that you will try to stop?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I need to get better about putting off pen cleaning. I used to clean my previous week’s pens when filling the new week’s pens. But that turned a 10-minute activity into a 20+ minute activity, which annoyed me. So, I started cleaning my pens on Mondays, then Tuesdays, and, well, you get the picture. I usually get them cleaned by Wednesday, but a couple of weeks ago, I never got to them and had to clean 10 pens at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

2. What is a brand you will try for the first time?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I put Stanford Wood Studios on my wish list last year<\/a>, but I never got to them. I’m so determined to get to them this year that I’ve already commissioned a pen. It’s gonna be awesome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. What is a brand you will let go in 2022?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Goodbye, Monteverde. I had multiple issues last year with their inks hard-starting even in my best writers, and that simply isn’t acceptable to me. So, I’m saying goodbye. Jim had me keep of few of their inks in our recent declutter, but I’m going to try to convince him to get rid of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. What nib would you like to try at least once?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My first thought for this was an architect nib. I’ve used one, but I don’t own one, and I’d like to. But then, I remembered the hoopla at the DC Pen Show around the Secretary of de Flex nib from Kirk Spear. I’ve never tried one but based on photos I’ve seen on Instagram, I want one!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. What product will you leave in 2021?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I can’t believe I’m saying \u2014 writing \u2014 this, but, the Firma-Flex notebook. Although it was my favorite notebook<\/a> for several years, I prefer the way the Rhodia Goalbook<\/a> shows shading. Sorry, Firma-Flex, I’ll miss your zero ghosting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. What product will you give a second chance to?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I had a very hard time coming up with an answer to this one. At first, I thought maybe Pineider, as I really like their Forged Carbon material. But it’s only available on their Mystery Filer model, which I find stupid. If the point of the Mystery Filer is to show the inner workings of the pen, why make it out of an opaque material?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, I think my answer is Jowo. While they took an unacceptably long time to address Jowogate<\/a>, once they did, it appears they’ve fixed the issue. I haven’t had any problems with my new housings, and I haven’t heard of any more complaints. I won’t get all my new pens with Bock sections just yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. What is a resolution for your collection?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned in my last post, my goal for this year is to buy no more than 24 pens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Do you have any ink or paper resolutions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just one, for ink. I want to continue reducing the size of my ink collection. I’m hoping that I can get to a point where I don’t have any dupe inks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. What new pen habit or behavior do you want to adopt this year?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technically, I’ve already started this behavior, but I want to display my “always inked” pens that aren’t in active use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Do you have any continuing resolutions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Yes, I wanted to buy more from indie makers for the past year. And I want to continue to focus on indie pen additions to my collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also want to continue culling pens from my collection that don’t make me happy to own, and avoid “happy to buy” purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
