I hope you’ve enjoyed this series. If you were unable to purchase the Inkvent Calendar, then this likely helped settle your mind about experiencing the colors. I’m sure that these 2022 colors will eventually be released individually, so hopefully this series helped you decide which ones \u2014 if any \u2014 to get.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comparing the Inkvent Calendars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I found this year’s Inkvent calendar disappointing. There were only two inks I couldn’t match perfectly, and I’m certain it comes down to not having the right ink, as opposed to those colors being super unique. This year’s calendar was released later than last year’s, and I didn’t have the time to place additional orders trying to find perfect ink matches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

On top of the ease of duping, I was able to perfectly dupe 15<\/strong> inks \u2014 that’s 60 percent! \u2014 with Diamine inks, 10<\/strong> of which \u2014 40 percent!!! \u2014 were from previous Inkvent calendars! There were an additional 7<\/strong> previous Inkvent inks and 8<\/strong> regular Diamine inks that were close enough matches that you’d likely have trouble telling them apart in writing samples. That is simple unacceptable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doing Things Differently<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I don’t know if the issue is that Diamine already has “all the colors” in their extensive ink catalog or that they’re being lazy. Either way, this calendar didn’t even come close to living up to its promise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If, in an alternate universe, I were able to develop next year’s calendar, I’d work with Diamine’s existing ink range. I seriously doubt any of us have used all of Diamine’s inks. Imagine, instead of so-called “new” inks being disappointingly easy to dupe, you instead had 25 days of existing inks evenly spread across the color spectrum \u2014 including special editions \u2014 with day 25 being a truly interesting multishader. That<\/em> could be a calendar worth $115. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Running the Numbers”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Formulas<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I “ran the numbers” for the formulas a little differently this year. There are four main formula types: standard, shimmer, sheen, and scented. I’ve grouped the various subtypes into those four main types. While this means the numbers won’t add up to 25 \u2014 or 100% \u2014 you get to see how things actually<\/em> break out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It may just be my corner of the pen world, but the number of people I know who actively<\/em> avoid shimmer inks is higher than those who enjoy using them. So it’s surprising to me that the majority of the inks this year contained some form of shimmer. I would have preferred to see an increase in multishaders \u2014 maybe 5 or 6 \u2014 rather than shimmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Colors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The color variety is pretty good this year, although heavy on greens through blues. I’d like to see a truly even calendar. Taking the 11 color categories I have below, Diamine could include two of each, then the additional three inks could be the color of the calendar (you know, greens for the green edition, etc.). These calendars are supposed<\/em> to introduce us all to new colors. Having a fairly even split is a great way to actually<\/em> do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
