25 Days of Dupes 2025 – Week 4

Posted in Ink

Welcome to the fourth post of 25 Days of Dupes 2025. Below you’ll find the inks for the remaining days (19-25). If you have a suggestion for a possible dupe for any of these inks, let me know in the comments, and I’ll add it to the wrap up post.

View Reminders
  • You can click the images to view them larger.
  • I swatched each ink with a small (#2) paintbrush and wrote with a F Sailor Compass Hocoro Dip Pen.
  • The dilution pages show the sheening inks diluted with water in single-part steps. I started with just the ink, then 1:1 ink to water, then 1:2, etc.
  • While I try to edit the images so they look as close to real life as possible, I can’t guarantee that the color you see on your screen will be true to life. However, with all the dupes on the same page, you’ll see how the colors look in relation to each other, which is the main point of these posts.
  • I can’t fairly call any ink a perfect color match, as I’m not comparing them scientifically, I’m just using my eyes. Therefore, I won’t be going any further than calling an ink a “near-perfect color match.”
  • I’m not attempting to dupe the special properties of the inks — sheen, shimmer, scent — only the base color.

I’ve included a dupe status this year to show how well I was able to match an ink. The rating scale includes 5 levels: success, successful color match, close, OK, and fail.

View status definitions

Success: all properties are matched including sheen, shimmer, and/or multishading

Successful color match: only the color has been matched

Close: there are noticeable differences in the ink swatches, but the inks would likely be indistinguishable when writing

OK: there are noticeable differences in the ink swatches and writing samples, but the inks are very similar (e.g. they are the same hue, but the match is too light or too dark)

Fail: all inks have noticeable differences from the Inkvent ink in the ink swatches and writing samples and have multiple properties that are different

Enjoy, and happy inking!

Overcast

Classification: Standard (Multishader)| Color: Pale Turquoise

Overcast is a pale sky blue/turquoise that shades to pink when enough ink pools. It is visible enough to use comfortably, but may be too pale in a dry pen.

Dupe status: Success
Closest Match: Vinta Perya

I compared Overcast to:

  • Diamine Chichen Itza – slightly too muted
  • Wearingeul Hwanung – slightly too blue
  • Pennonia Danuvius – slightly too blue
  • Vinta Perya (Blue Floss) – near-perfect color match, including multishading properties
  • Diamine Celadon Cat – slightly too green

Ambience

Classification: Chameleon| Color: Coral

Ambience is an orange-leaning coral with some shading. It has multichrome shimmer that shifts from pink to orange to gold.

Dupe status: OK
Closest Match: Sailor Ink Studio 473

I compared Ambience to:

  • Diamine Peach Haze – too orange and too vibrant
  • Sailor Ink Studio 473 – too dark
  • Pilot Iroshizuki Fuyu-Gaki – too orange and too dark
  • J. Herbin Corail des Tropiques – slightly too pink and too muted

Chaos

Classification: Extreme Sheen| Color: Wine

Chaos is your typical “obliterate the base color” sheen monster. However, its base color is wine, and the sheen is a lime green. If you dilute the ink, or are very careful with the amount you put down, you can see some shading.

Dupe status: Close
Closest Match: Colorverse Intense Magnetic Field

I compared Chaos to:

  • Troublemaker Nenita – too brown, sheen is similar but less pronounced
  • Colorverse Intense Magnetic Field – slightly too dark, sheen is similar but less visible
  • Wearingeul 1984 – too dark
  • Push/Pull Vampire – too purple and too light
  • Taccia Ebi – too light
  • Diamine Writer’s Blood – slightly too red and slightly too dark

Dilution

Chaos dilution page

At 1:1 (ink to water) dilution, the base color is visible, but significantly darker because the dye density is still too strong. At 1:2 dilution, you start seeing the real base color. Even at 1:4 dilution, you still see sheen at the edges, although the base color does start to lighten somewhat.

Pineapple Spritz

Classification: Pigment Chameleon| Color: Yellow

Pineapple Spritz managed what few inks do: a yellow that is readable. Granted, it’s not the easiest ink in the world to read, but it’s not virtually invisible like most yellows are. It leans slightly toward gold, rather than the orange-leaning yellows we’re all used to. It has minimal shading as I’d expect from a pigment ink. The shimmer in Pineapple Spritz does shift from a matching yellow to a pale blue, but you can really only tell if a lot of shimmer is visible.

Dupe status: OK
Closest Match: Jacques Herbin Ambre Insouciance

I compared Pineapple Spritz to:

  • Diamine Forever Solar Yellow – too orange and too light
  • Jacques Herbin Amber Insouciance – slightly too green and slightly too dark
  • Diamine Fortune’s Gold – too dark

Let it Snow

Classification: Chameleon| Color: Turquoise

Let it Snow is a nice, vibrant turquoise that feels transparent — a funny thing to say about inks, I know — at least partially because it shades well. It has duochrome shimmer that shifts from turquoise to lilac.

Dupe status: Successful Color Match
Closest Match: Robert Oster Free Spirit

I compared Let it Snow to:

  • Diamine Subzero – too dark
  • Dominant Industry Horizon – slightly too dark
  • Jacques Herbin Turquoise de Perse – too dark
  • Robert Oster Free Spirit – near-perfect color match, contains purple shimmer that settles fully

Antler

Classification: Pigment| Color: Brown

Antler is an interesting purple-leaning brown. It has more shading than I expect from a pigment ink.

Dupe status: OK
Closest Match: J. Herbin Cacao du Bresil

I compared Antlers to:

  • Diamine Dusted Truffle – too pink and slightly too light
  • Diamine Espresso – too gray and too dark
  • J. Herbin Cacao du Bresil – slightly too gray
  • Wearingeul Anubis – slightly too yellow

Myrrh the Merrier

Classification: Shimmer & Sheen (Chameleon & Sheen)| Color: Teal

Myrrh the Merrier has enough sheen to consider it a sheen monster, but the sheen is less vibrant than some; it’s more of a dull red than the bright fuchsia/magenta I’m used to seeing. Its base color is a dark teal. While Diamine classifies Myrrh the Merrier as a shimmer & sheen ink, the shimmer is multichrome, shifting from royal blue to purple to magenta.

Dupe status: Close
Closest Match: Wearingeul For Whom the Bell Tolls

I compared Myrrh the Merrier to:

  • Inkebara Petrol Dark – too blue and too light
  • Diamine Vibe – too blue and too light
  • Wearingeul For Whom the Bell Tolls – slightly too green
  • Diamine Serendipity – too blue

Dilution

Myrrh the Merrier dilution page

Myrrh the Merrier’s sheen is powerful enough to obliterate both the base color and the shimmer. However, even diluting it 1:1 is enough to let both show again. At 1:2 and 1:3 dilutions, you can still see some shimmer, although you start to see the color lighten at 1:3.
