Per usual, you can click on the images to view them larger. I do my best to provide you with high-quality pen porn. 😉

I have a different type of pen porn post for you today: the 2024 Pilot Shareholder 1,000+ shares gift. While there is a fountain pen, and I do have some good photos of it, this time I’m more interested in sharing the packaging, because it’s really nice.

Notes:

  • All translations are via Google Translate, so there are likely errors.
  • I do not own any shares in Pilot. I picked this up secondhand.

The entire set is packaged in a white cardboard box with the Pilot logo and a nib with flourishes in holographic overlay. The text in the circle at the top left translates to “Deferred payment mail.” Jim suggested a parallel with “cash on delivery.” I think it may be similar to the U.S. pre-paid mail.

When you open the outer box, there are two cream-colored cardstock boxes inside, and an information page. I’m not going to provide a transcript, you can screenshot and load into Google Translate if you want, but I will provide an overview.

The first paragraph is a thank you for supporting Pilot, and acknowledging the gift is a token of the company’s gratitude.

The first bolded text and table describes the 1,000+ shares gift; there is an exclusive Custom 74 and a “practical writing instrument set.” Next is the 500-1,000 shares gift description; there is a Pilot Metropolitan retro pop and the “practical writing instrument set.” Third is the 100-500 shares gift description, listing the contents of the “practical writing instrument set.”

The sign off at the bottom-right is from “Representative Director and President Fumio Fujisaki.”

The larger of the two boxes contains the aforementioned “practical writing instrument set.” The front flap has the same nib and flourish design from the outer box, this time in gold. Inside the front flap, each writing instrument is listed and described:

  1. Acroball Ballpoint Pen – 0.5mm
I can’t find the exact pen online. It could be an exclusive to the gift, or Japan.
  2. Opt Shaker Mechanical Pencil – 0.5mm, White Stripe
  3. FriXion Ball Knock Zone Gel Pen – 0.5 mm, Neutral Clear
  4. ILMILY Nuance Black Gel Pen – 0.5mm, Black Yellow
  5. FriXion Light US Erasable Highlighter – Yellow
  6. V Sign Pen – Red

The text at the bottom states that the packaging is “made from pagasu pulp which is made from sugarcane residue.”

And then we get to the exciting part, the exclusive Custom 74. It’s in a box matching the “practical writing instrument set.” The insert mentions that the Custom 74 has over 100 years of history and this version is exclusive to the shareholder gift.

The dark and light brown are complemented by gold trim. I love that the finials are dark brown, rather than the traditional dark blue. The design of the pen is identical to other Custom 74s.

I’m really happy I was able to get this. I’ll have to keep an eye out for the shareholder gifts next year.
