This particular pen was a commission from Analog Notes. After getting my pen with Chrysanthemum petals last year, it occurred to me that this, finally, was an excellent use for some dried petals I had saved.

Analog Notes Precious Petals

Late last year, I reached out to the lovely husband-and-wife team of Analog Notes and Once Upon a Blank. I wanted to find out if they could create a custom pen using some very special — precious — petals.

Dried petals that I sent to Sara.

Sara was enthusiastic about creating a custom blank and walked me through options for inclusions. I skipped glitter and opted out of glow-in-the-dark powder since my chrysanthemum pen glows. I agreed on adding color, and chose purple-to-pink color changing powder. She offered gold, silver, or bronze flakes and shimmer, all of which I left as maker’s choice.

Color change powder, half pink, half purple.
Once I saw these colors, the choice was easy.

Sara warned me that she’d need to crush the petals somewhat, which I OK’d.

From that point, it was just a matter of sending the petals to Sara and waiting for my turn on their list around the holidays.

If you saw my January pen purchases post, you already know my pen was completed in January. Sara and Ronnie did a great job.

As you can see in the video, the purple is heat reactive, changing to pink as it warms.

The silver flakes are a delightful addition.

And the petals? They are from the first bouquet Jim gave me. I’ve had them saved for over 7 years.

Precious petals, indeed.
