A Fun New Pen Case

Posted in Storage

Recently, I purchased a Raymay Detecool Pen Case after watching a JetPens video (Detecool segment starts at 0:16). I wasn’t sure how it would work out for my pens, but I was very pleasantly surprised.

The Detecool case zipped up.

After using it a few times, I can happily say it’s my favorite traveling pen case. Here’s some of what’s so great about it.

Construction & Space

The Detecool case appears to be well-made, and I have high hopes that it will last a long time with a bit of TLC. The sides and bottom are sturdy, making crushing unlikely. So my pens will be well protected.

There is enough space inside to hold multiple pens in individual pen sleeves. In my opinion, this is what makes the case extra special. I have other cases that offer sturdy protection (the Franklin-Christoph Penvelope and Girologio zippered cases come to mind), but they don’t hold my pens in protective sleeves. The Detecool allows for scratch protection as well as basic crush protection.

Look at those well-protected pens.

Multi-Use

The Detecool isn’t just a case, it also doubles as a pen cup. The top flap is held out of the way by a convenient magnet on the back, leaving your pens readily available. And the pen “drawer” — or maybe I should call it a cup? — pulls out at an angle for easy access.

The Detecool with the "cup" pulled out at an angle.

Despite its tall, thin design, the Detecool is well-balanced. It’s not likely to get knocked over easily. I’ve tried giving it a couple of light bumps, and it didn’t even move.

Sizes

There are two versions, the full-sized one I bought, and a smaller, “Mobile” version with extra pockets. If you have tall pens, you definitely want the full sized version. But if you’re looking for a case for medium or small sized pens, then you’ll be happy with the Mobile.

Downside

There’s really only one downside in my opinion: availability. As far as I know, it’s only available at JetPens. And, because it’s so new, some of the colorways are often unavailable. Hopefully, as time goes on, they’ll be more readily available.

I may pick up another one or two of these as the world gets back to normal and meetups become possible again.

What do you think? Is this a case that would be useful for you? Do you think you’ll get one? Let me know in a comment.

    • I highly recommend it if you’re going to keep it on you. It won’t hold pens in place if it’s tossed in a suitcase or something. But, the little loop on the top is perfect for hooking to a bag with a carabiner clip (or something similar).
