When we first had to wear masks, I used an N95 cup mask we had left over. I didn’t have a problem with mascne with that mask, since it barely touched my face. It wasn’t very comfortable, though. When I had to replace it — the elastic broke — I eventually settled on a KF94 mask for its comfort.
Unfortunately, like most other masks, it touches more of my face and I started having all sorts of mascne problems.
Trying to Solve the Problem
Because I’m one of those people who can’t keep themselves from picking at pimples, I knew I had to find a solution. Before I get into it, yes, I tried changing my mask with a bit more frequency, but I didn’t want to just turn these into 1-2 use disposable masks. That’s both expensive, and worse for the environment than using them longer. I wanted to find a solution for wearing this mask as long as allowed.
For a while, simply wiping my face after extended mask wearing seemed to help. But when the mascne came back, I tried using Stridex pads for sensitive skin. First, I tried wiping my face with one after I wore a mask for extended periods. When that didn’t seem to help much, I tried using them once a day in the morning. That seemed to help better, but the mascne came back. On top of that, it was more drying than I would like.
So my search continued.
A Solution
During a recent Ulta Beauty sale, I impulsively decided to get a Foreo LUNA Mini 3. It was mainly because I liked my manual silicone scrubber and wanted to try a vibrating one. A small part of me thought that it might also help the mascne, but I wasn’t holding out much hope.
Turns out, it was my best purchase in a LONG time. At the time of writing, I’ve owned the Foreo for 25 days, and I haven’t had a new pimple in about three weeks. It may have been longer than that, but it’s hard to know if any may have been forming under the skin only to pop up later.
Beyond being a pimple solution, I love how clean my face feels after using it. Once side has longer, softer “bristles” that I use most days. The other side has shorter, harder “nubs” that are great for exfoliation and a deep clean.
I only use it to clean my face, but you can, apparently, also use it to apply serums and face masks. I think it’s supposed to aid absorption.
The Luna Mini 3 holds a charge well. I don’t know if I fully charged it when I got it, but I haven’t had to charge it yet. You can personalize how long it runs and the intensity of vibration using its app.
Anyway, I highly recommend it. Maybe not at full price, but we’re going into sale season soon. So, if you’re interested, keep your eyes open.
