I fell in love with this pen when Yulia Glas posted her first preview of it to her stories. Then, when I saw the second preview, I knew I needed to have it. Cats AND books?! Literally two of my favorite things! I turned on alerts for Stanford Pen Studio (SPS), and pounced (pun intended) as soon as they posted the pen for sale. Before you continue reading my post, I suggest watching Di’s video — it’s only 90 seconds — where she reads each book title.

360° Views
As always, I’ve started with the 360° views. Yulia put so much detail into this pen, it definitely needed a video and a 360° photo layout.

Cats
As much as I love books, we must, of course, start with the cats. Working down from the cap finial, we start with an adorable brown tabby kitten perched on a stack of books. Look at how floofy it is!!!

Up next, we have this adorable gray tabby half hidden behind the same stack of books. Those blue eyes are stunning!

On the barrel, we have two kittens reading a book together. The markings on the tabby are fantastic, but I think the floofy tail on the long-haired kitten might be even better.

And finally — not counting the barrel finial — we have an orange cat wearing round, glasses. It’s also got a cup of tea — I wonder if it’s catnip tea?

Mice and Books
Meow-ving on — I just couldn’t help myself — we have six mice. Yulia painted them all with exquisite detail in their fur and whiskers. They’re so cute, and so tiny! The one reading is 1cm tall (not including its tail), the one is drinking tea(!) is only 8mm tall, the two chatting across books are about 13mm nose to butt, and the one helping its buddy up onto a shelf — and its buddy — are about 1cm each.

Hats off to Yulia for adding beautiful details to the various books. She’s got everything from gilding to paw prints; even the pages are shaded! And, in case you didn’t watch Di’s video, allow me to share all 30 book titles:

Additional Details
As if the cats, books, and mice aren’t fabulous enough, Yulia snuck in a few additional details. I’m not a plant person, but, based on a Google search, I’m guessing it’s one of the “string of” plants. Maybe string of nickels, or beads, or dolphins, or bananas? Or possibly a Pothos.

And the candle in its candlestick is so beautifully detailed. It’s difficult to tell in a nice, large, photo, but its only 10/16 of an inch — 18mm!

Probably the smartest — and sneakiest — detail, is Yulia’s signature, beautifully incorporated as the author of the book Catology!

Finials
The cap finial features the standard SPS crown coin, in silver. The barrel finial, though, features five 2-3mm tall cats sitting on a fence!!! I don’t know if they were painted or drawn, but OH MY GOD that is TINY!!!

I am so lucky to have snagged this pen!! Another stunning masterpiece added to my SPS “artwork in the shape of pens” collection.

Which cat is your favorite? Do you own any SPS pens? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
Thanks for reading to the end, I hope you enjoyed my post. Make sure to subscribe to my blog or follow me on Instagram so you don’t miss any posts. I generally post at least once a week.
The detail, stunning. As one who loves cats and books, I am envious!!
Aw, this pen really makes me miss my Aunt who passed in August of this year. She was a university librarian for decades & loved cats.
I would have sent this post to her and she would have loved the artistry of this pen! Since she’s gone, I’ll enjoy the incredible details and think of her & her legacy.
I’m sorry for your loss. I hope this post at least let you reminisce on some good memories.
Thank you for this lovely review. And for noticing the fine, fine details … like the cats on the barrel finial. That makes me believe in magic!!
The fine detail is what always catches me! It’s so amazing. 😁😁
