We have a new calendar this year! Colorverse debuted their foray into the advent calendar world, Colorvent, and I snapped one up, because I love Colorverse ink. I’m considering duping the Inkvent Calendar sometime early next year, let me know if that’s something you’re interested in seeing. Of course, because it’s a completely different calendar, there will be some differences, but there will also be a lot of similarities.
What’s the Same?
As I have the past couple of years, I will be posting once a week with all of the inks from that week, with the day based on Christmas. Since Christmas is on Wednesday, my Colorvent posts will be on Thursdays. My first dupe post will be on the 5th, with the inks from December 1-4. My final dupe post will be on the 26th, with inks from December 19-24. And I’ll have a wrap-up/reference post on the 27th linking to the 4 dupe posts and listing the best dupe for each ink.
Changes
The biggest difference is the number of days. The Colorvent Calendar has 24 days to Inkvent’s 25. However, I don’t want to post on Christmas day, so the final weekly post, as I mentioned above, will still be on the day after Christmas.
As I disliked the paper I used last year, I changed paper again. This year I’m using Muji A5 loose leaf paper with dot grid ruling. It’s fantastic paper. I highly recommend it.
I changed my writing utensil as well. Instead of the Zebra G dip nib I’ve used in previous years, I wrote with a Sailor Compass Hocoro Dip Pen. I think it gives a more realistic look at at what to expect when writing with a standard fountain pen.
Calendar Overview
Since Colorvent is a new calendar, I want to provide an overview for people. Let’s start with the description on the back of the calendar:
CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN
We are pleased to announce the launch of our Christmas collection, which features 24 new colors in 15ml bottles, each inspired by the universe. From December 1st to 24th, discover a special gift hidden behind each door.
The gift will be presented in a Colorverse signature bottle.
This festive season, let us bring joy to your days with these extraordinary inks, which allow you to create moments as unique and special as the universe itself.
TOP 3 INK WILL BE RELEASED
While the Colorvent Calendar is produced in limited quantities, following a comprehensive analysis of voting data via Google Form and consumer feedback, we will select the top three Colorvent Calendar inks as our most promising candidates for signature bottled inks. These will be released in upsized formats at a later date.
The above text has been exactly transcribed from the back of the Colorvent Calendar.
So, unlike Diamine with Inkvent, Colorverse will not release all of the ink colors next year. This, of course, makes me feel like finding dupes is that much more important.
Descriptions
Colorverse also provides a short explanation for the name of each ink on each door. I’m including the description for each day, as well as links to images of the inspiration, where appropriate.
Price Breakdown
There is, obviously, a significant difference in price between the two calendars. Diamine’s Inkvent is $120 in the United States, and Colorverse’s Colorvent is $180. I decided to do a quick price comparison to help those who may still be on the fence. Colorverse could be argued to be a slightly better deal in terms of how much you’re paying per ml in comparison to non-calendar inks. But, I don’t think there is enough of a difference to choose one calendar over the other based on price by volume.
Colorverse | Diamine | |
---|---|---|
Calendar price | $180 USD | $120 USD |
Total ml in calendar | 360 | 318 |
Calendar price per ml | $0.50 | $0.377 |
Bottle price per ml | $0.454 – $1.4 | $0.213 – $0.45 |
Reminder
It’s been a full year, so I want to remind everyone that even though I title this series ## Days of Dupes, I’m looking for base color matches. Trying to match the special properties would take far more time and money than I have, and 24 Days of Trying to Match Base Colors doesn’t have the same ring to it.
There are several options to add shimmer to ink now. You also have the option to mix your own colors which may get you some sheen or multishading. More and more people are getting into color mixing on Instagram, with several even posting “recipes.”
Enjoy
With all of that out of the way, I hope you have an excellent holiday season. Per usual, you’ll be able to find all of this year’s posts on a dedicated tag page. I hope you enjoy this year’s 24 Days of Dupes. Happy Colorvent season!
Have you followed any of my previous 25 Days of Dupes? Did you buy the Colorvent Calendar, Inkvent Calendar, or skip them both? Do you want to see the Inkvent Dupes early next year? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.
