2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge

Posted in Book Blogger

Another year gone means another reading challenge complete. As I’m sure you can imagine, 2023 had some highly-stressful times. As often happens when I’m stressed, I read a lot.

I finished 104 books in 2023. That’s high even for me. That averages to 2 books a week, or a book every 3.5 days. Of course, the average doesn’t tell the whole story. As I mentioned in last year’s post, I have periods of voracious reading, followed by periods of relative calm.

My numbers are also skewed by when I’m offered free, or drastically reduced, Kindle Unlimited subscriptions. I don’t know why Amazon keeps offering me 3 months for 99¢, but I’m not complaining.

If you’re interested in what I thought of the books I read, you can take a look at my book review posts, or my Reviewed list on Goodreads. I don’t review every book I read, and, even for those I do, they aren’t guaranteed to make it on here.

2023 Reading Challenge Details

Per usual, Goodreads provided this year’s edition of “My Year in Books.” I read 20 more books than in 2022 — approximately 9,386 pages.

I read a lot of light, fun stories, good for taking my mind off of stress, and even re-read quite a few books that are my favorites.

I don’t think I’ll read as much next year as I read this year, but, I certainly didn’t expect to read as much as I did this year. So… we’ll see.

Do you take part in Goodreads reading challenges? If so, did you meet your 2023 goal? Do you have a reading goal for this year? Let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for reading to the end, I hope you enjoyed my post. Make sure to subscribe to my blog or follow me on Instagram so you don’t miss any posts. I generally post at least once a week.

What were the five pens you got from South Africa? Were they from different pen makers or one in particular whose work you really like?

    • They are all from Stanford Pen Studio. They work with multiple independent artists. You can check out the posts I have on the pens I own from them.

Thanks for the 411. Just checked out your reviews and their website. The first screenplay I sold was set in South Africa. I had traveled there in 1983 to see it for myself. If you had told me that Nelson Mandela would walk out of Pollsmoor Prison alive, much less become the President of South Africa, I would never have believed it.

I have been thinking about what pen I might want next and the idea of a South African pen is appealing.

        Thanks again for the info.
